The Downs Family Blog

Well it seems we have joined the "Family Blog Train" :D haha.  Erin setup a new blog for us to show off little Griffin today and I just wanted to divert traffic to that blog.  Being Griffin will be our little show-off soon, I will more than likely be posting all my pictures of him there and all his little milestones as well.  Tho I get the urge to post something on here every now and then, there will definitely be more going on over there, since Erin will be keeping up with it and I will be throwing in my little posts and pictures too.  So head on over there, nothing as of right now, 12:00 noon, but there will be soon.  We have to catch up :).  See ya over there!

Back on the 3rd, Erin got to get away from it all. A couple we are friends with opened up their cabin back in West LImestone for us to spend the weekend in, no phone signal, no cable, just Erin, I and nature. It was great, we def will return :).

Can't say this is my first pic, but here is the iPhone in action.

Man this thing is great, got the Internet at the tip of fingers, and now instead of texting my wife in the middle of class I can send her an email and not even get charged for it. Super nice! I even sent her an image of a test score and didn't even have to type it out. I won't share what I made though :).

I do know one thing. Yesterday I was sporting my new iPhone to my SS teacher Rod, and he was WOW by it, being a tech guru himself he knew exactly what he had in his hands. The latest in technology right there in front of him. And in the midst of checking it out and the "Oh man's!", he said out loud, "Oh man, I better stop I'm gonna start worshiping this thing!" And moved right on.

Whether he knew it or not it left an impression on me. It was Sunday and we were getting ready for SS class, and that just told me that his mind wasn't on the cool new iPhone that Drew is showing him, but rather on SS. That made me appreciate him even more. His focus is on SS and on us, that God would use him to speak to us and he didn't want anything to get in the way of that, not even a iPhone! So thanks Rod! You humbled me but also set me straight bud.

*praying, God teach me to not focus on worldy things, but focus purely on You and Your grace, mercy, and love! Thank you for Jesus!

I'm gonna do it!
After talking to my wife this past weekend, I finally decided to get myself an iPhone. Being a very timid person with my money, I usually can't make the decision to just buck down and get something. I tend to tell myself, "Is it really worth it?" "I think I can make due till it drops down in price." or "What else could I get with that kind of money." But I'm gonna do it, I've pumped myself up, watched the 25 minute tutorial and I want one bad. Now I'm not sure exactly when I can get it. I have the cash, but not sure the best time for me to make a special trip for it, school and all :). But I know for sure that I want it! My little Motorola Razor has about had it.

I know there is going to be a certain lifestyle change for me if I get the iPhone...I'll need to take a little better care of my phones. The last two phones I have had were pretty much deemed unusable again and just thrown away at the stores :). Before I had my Razor I had a little Verizon phone that had a chewed off antennae, the battery was taped on by electrical tape, and the front screen was almost not readable due to the scratches from dropping it. Now my Razor is not as bad, but bad. Scraped up body, the battery looks terrible due to me dropping my phone one day while walking and the battery popped out, I stepped on it and almost broke my neck sliding on it :). When I flip the phone out it gets stuck sometimes halfway and I almost have to break it for it to fold back. And not to mention the terrible signal I get on the phone.

So it's about time, I had a super nice phone. Something that I can enjoy for a good chunk of time. I've usually gone the cheap route, only owning 3 phones since I was 16, but now I'm gonna drop the change and wish for the best. Shanna, http://www.shannamarie.com/, a good friend of mine, totally recommends it. I trust her, and I'll take her word of advice. I'm pumped for the 2 megapixel camera, I bet that looks nice. I'd recommend checking out the tutorial on the Apple webpage. Be sure you have a good connection, it's a long video :). Apple iPhone...here I come!

Hey guys I've been in a rock mood these days, been jamming to the likes of P.O.D. and Skillet. This song I find pretty catchy but all in all I just wanted to plug Skillet out there for anyone that might not have heard of them. Enjoy!

Brad calls...

Ok, to lay some background I have a friend I graduated high school with who I was pretty close to. Hung out many nights, went to church together, pretty much was attached at the hip with two other friends of ours. Well as soon as high school was gone, so was my friend Brad. High school seems to do that to people. He's been in and out of contact for the past 5 years and randomly calls me here and there. About 5 months ago Brad calls me and says hey man I'm in Germany! I was like wha...haha...what! Brad joined the military. I was very happy for him, something he wanted to do for a long time and he got in.

Which leads me to today, I come into to work around 1 and I sit down to eat my lunch and get ready to work. Ring...ring...hm it's a local number...Hello? Hey man it's Brad!

To make a long story short, Brad just needed someone to talk to. He was going through some issues with God and he really just needed someone to listen to what he had to say. After about a 40 minute conversation about Brad's life in Germany and how God keeps showing up here and there, I ended the conversation with him trying my best to encourage him and tell him to keep on seeking God and see what He wants him to do.

I made this post, for whomever wants to, to ask you guys to pray for Brad. He's been a seeker from the get go, a guy who wants to experience everything there is to do and then learn from there. He is currently in Germany and is really been hit with some life-changing thoughts. Should he give up the party life in Germany for a godly life? He's not sure what he needs to do, of course I want to say, "Go for God man!" But I know he needs to decide on what he has to do next. So pray for him, pray that God gives him wisdom and keeps on getting his attention. Brad is one to put things off and put things off, pray that he doesn't on this and that he takes a responsible step in the right direction.

WoW Collage I threw together one night while I was bored. The top toon is one of my friends I met on WoW, this is his toon Brynne, Gnome Warlock, and the bottom and middle is my Draenei Shaman, Yurn, who is currently sitting at level 68. Man he's Yurning to be 70 ha...ha...ok sorry :).

I'm taking a break from World of Warcraft right now, but I hope to be back in the mix by the time I graduate and get a new home :). Till then I'll be bloggin/schoolin/working away!

Graphic Design I & More

Had to create some logos and Company Identification for my first project in Advanced Graphic Design I. We had our critique yesterday and I posted my final designs on my Flickr account. Check em out if you want!

A curious happening...

Today, I was walking away from my truck after spending all morning cutting wood for my 3-D design class and a guy, about 26 or so, walked up to me today and was trying to get me to buy a CD that consisted of "18 of the best hits around." I was at the moment talking to Erin and I just said nahh. But being persistent the guy said "well how about you check it out, it's only $5 dollars and I will give you your money back if you don't like it." Knowing that I would probably never see this guy again and also besides the point I wasn't willing to spend our money on a CD I don't really know I just said, "you know what, I better not." Not missing a beat this guy said, "man are you married?" seeing my ring no doubt, "Yeah man", "how are you doing that?" and without much thought the words "God gives me grace man" just came out, the guy was kinda shocked at what I had said, I continued saying that God provides me with money even. His reply though was "sh*t my boys give me money." And for some reason the conversation suddenly ended liked that. I didn't know what to say I had Erin on the phone and I was just left standing there and walked away with a "thanks anyway man." I thought to myself as I was talking to Erin that I should have pursued that further maybe get to know the guy and talk to him about his relationship with God, but for some reason it just ended, I can't really explain what happened. I felt bad because it was like I was just so busy talking to Erin and walking where I was going that I just happen to shrug him off, but also I think do you think he would have been open to what I had to say? He was pretty quick to run off, but that is just my mind trying to justify the situation. He obviously seemed to be on a mission to pass out these flyers and sell CD's but would he have the time or the interest to hear what God does in my life being married? He engaged me in conversation and I didn't even continue...how many times do we all do that. Oh man I got to get here, and knowing it really ain't that important, but still someone just says hey or you see someone you know and you don't really stop to see how they are doing or even ask what is going on. Just a hey and see ya.

I take this lesson and I pray that I learn it well, stop, listen, and talk. Don't be in such a hurry that you don't take the time to share Jesus. Get to know people no matter who they are, this guy was about 26 or so as it seemed, wearing a backwards "G-unit" hat with a large white shirt and baggy jeans, not my normal friend but he still needs Christ, so everyone that reads this please don't get too busy to stop and talk to someone. I wish I could say that I told this guy that God is my Lord and He provides everything, bt I sadly say I didn't.

*prayer* Lord, make me more open to people, not mechanically focused on the task at hand, but always open to what You are going to bring my way. I pray that I would be more personal with those around me, a friend to everyone around me even. May You Lord give me wisdom more and more everyday to be the man of God I need to be, not just a mediocre Christian but a man of God that You can use. Let me be more bold and open to those around me about my life, because Lord You are my life. You created me and You give me life every day who am I to live it selfishly. Lord grow me in Your Word, give me more desire to read Your love letter to me. Thank You Lord for my wonderful wife, Erin, may our relationship be always glorfiy you and only you. May our love grow deeper everyday for each other and more importantly for You. Give me wisdom and understanding... Draw me close to you...

The Day I become One with another!

hey guys only 4 days and I will be becoming "One Flesh" with my dearest Erin. I can't wait guys! It's such a gift, marriage is! Just wanted to let everyone know I'm still alive just so busy lately with getting our house done and getting stuff pack for the honeymoon! Gotta run! I will be returning sometime after everything slows down after the honeymoon. I love these shots of the sun falling behind the clouds, if you look closely you can see a military plane (HUGE!) fly through the clouds...also I hate it but it seems I have scratched my lens, all those photo crazies out there! Any suggestions on what I should do? I hope it ain't too expensive.

hey guys drew here! sorry it took me so long to post, just been a busy past few days, after i found out monday night i was photographer for soulstock i have been running wild ever since. well i'm back, if anyone knows, can i use flickr to post pics on my blog? just wondering, i hope so cuz i got some pics to put up. well guys if everyone is wondering there is a prayer service at Athens State tonight for Soulstock '05 tomorrow, i believe everyone is invited, it will be on beasley field, come out and sing to our Lord in prayer for tomorrow. I'll be on stage or around taking pics, well if everyone wants to know i have a flickr account my screename is drumcore26 if anyone wants to check out my pics, i'll get some up maybe in the next few days, i got work and soulstock tomorrow so i might be busy all day long, and sunday i might get some up for you's guys. hey guys, tried to get my hello to work but it seems it still wants to be stubborn...oh well. doesn't seem to want to send the pictures, i finally got the email from them, come to find out it was emailing me, but it was going directly to my spam folder so i had like 5 auto replys. well guys it seems that i will not be able to send any pictures today. I had some nice shots for ya'll today too. well today i spent most of the day working at my house in athens, it's erin and I's house yeah!!!!!! can't wait to get married and move in! Oh a friend that i graduated with today called me it has been about a year since i talked to him and he said he wanted to get back in church and get his life back on track with God! Isn't that awesome! YEAH GOD! Well bedtime catch ya's later!
